Chunky Split Pea Soup (Ham Bone Dinner)
Combine in large kettle:
2 cups dried yellow or green split peas
4 peppercorns
1 ham bone
salt to taste
water to cover
2 onions, diced
Bring to boil, then simmer 2-3 hours until peas are done, adding water if necessary.
Remove ham bone, cut off meat and chop finely.
Add to soup:
ham bits
6 carrots, sliced
1 green pepper, chopped
Cook until carrots are done, about 30 minutes. Makes 6-8 servings.
