Cinnamon Toast

Ingredients:

1 lb. loaf fresh bread

1 cup butter or margarine

1 cup fine granulated sugar

1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon


Directions:

Cut slices of bread diagonally. Sauté half the slices slowly, 2 or 3 at a time, adding butter gradually until each piece is golden brown on each side, but not dark. Remove slices from skillet and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon mixture.


Variation: Combine sugar and cinnamon and add a little water to make a paste. Dip bread into paste and sauté in butter until browned. The sugar and butter caramelize and give the toast a delicious crisp crust.
