Runzas

Ingredients:

2 cups warm water

1/2 cup sugar

1 pkg. quick-rise dry yeast

1 tsp. salt

2 eggs

1/3 cup powdered milk

5 to 5 1/2 cups flour

1/2 cup salad oil

2 lbs. hamburger, browned

1/2 lg. head cabbage, shredded

1 med. onion, chopped

Salt and pepper to season meat

Directions:

Combine water, sugar and yeast; set aside. Beat eggs with oil and salt. Warm egg mixture slightly to remove chill. Add to yeast mixture and stir in dry milk and flour. Beat well. This will be a stiff batter. Pour into a buttered bowl and let rise for 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Meanwhile brown hamburger; add shredded cabbage and onion; cook until cabbage is done, about 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. set aside to cool.

When dough has raised, roll out 1/2 of it using enough flour to make handling easy.

Cut in squares 3-4" across. Put large spoonful of meat mixture in center of each square of dough and bring up corners of dough and seal.

Arrange Runzas on cookie sheet with pinched dough side down.

Let rise again about 30 minutes. Bake at 350 for 15 - 20 minutes until browned.

Brush with melted butter on top. Makes about 25.
